Above
is a painting by Wilfred Ball. The
scene is Fair
Brook in the Peak District. Fair Brook
is on the northern edge of Kinder Scout
and is accessable from the A57 Snake
Pass road which runs from Glossop to
Ladybower and the Upper Derwent Valley.
I once worked for a plastic extrusion
company in Derbyshire who named their
company after this lovely painting.
For some time I have wanted to find
the location of where this painting
was created. So on the 14th April 2006
I set on my way to find the spot where
this could be. It was not an easy task
as there were several places it could
have been. Eventually
I took photographs in two potential
spots. The first was lower in the valley
and the second was further up. I was
hampered slightly as I did not take
a copy of the painting with me (so
it was on memory alone to find the
location). It was a lovely walk up
through Fair Brook to the top
and the north Kinder Edge. That day
my walk carried on to Fairbrook Naze, Ashop
Edge, and the Snake Path.
