Knoll Car Park
On a bright and sunny day I walked from Dennis Knoll
to Stanage Edge and beyond. My route followed the ancient
track of the Long Causeway up on to Stanage Edge. Then
following the same track I visited Stanedge Pole on
my way to Redmires Reservoirs. Today the nearest of
the reservoirs was dried up. Strangely there were very
few birds around for the pools that were left. A little
further on was the curious Head Stone where someone
had painted a smiley face on its top stone. Carrying
on and after passing Surrey Farm and Crawshaw Lodge
I crossed Rod Moor (I did not visit the Trig Point)
to Platts Farm. During this time a very large old plane
(looked like a Wellington or Lancaster) flew overhead
being escorted by two Spitfires. I guess they were
probably on there way to the Derwent and Howden Dams.
My return journey went via the Stake Hill Road (another
ancient track) across Ughill Moor. Eventually I walked
along Stanage edge to High Neb Trig Point. A great
day out in the Peaks. |
