My
name is Neil Haslewood and I have been peak and fell walking
regularly since 2002. It was back in 2001 when I was talking
to Mark who is a friend of mine about a walk he had one
winter up Scafell Pike. During his walk he had a very bad
experience in difficult conditions and in fact he had great
problems on the descent. He was apprehensive about walking
up there again so I suggested that I would go up with him
although I had not attempted anything like that since I
was a teenager. Well that's how it all started and since
then its become my main hobby and pastime.
I
live in Ashbourne on the southern edge of the Peak District.
This is perfect for walking in the Peak District and its
also not too far away from the Lake District or even Snowdonia.
I have lived in Ashbourne for around 25 years. Although
I am an Accountant by trade I have worked as an IT Manager
for over 10 years in Derbyshire. As well as walking I play
squash against Mark once a fortnight and I have only retired
from umpiring in the Womens National Hockey League in 2005.
Having just turned 50 (2005) I am now looking forward to
many years of walking in Britain and its National Parks. |
